Bregenzer Roter Spelt

Bregenzer Roter Spelz is an Austrian landrace spelt variety. I obtained my original seed stock from Petr Vorbil of the Czech Republic. This variety is fall planted and did well for me this last spring during some of the wettest conditions I have experienced here in Northern Indiana. The plants have strong stems and showed no signs of lodging during periods of heavy rainfall and wind. The plants reached a height of 5 foot. There was minimal disease issues but I did observe some minor signs of fusarium (FHB). This was to be expected given all the rain we had during flowering and grain fill.

Spelt is not free threshing and has a tight hull which needs removed before milling.
