Rouge Et Noir is a delicious Louisiana heirloom black crowder pea. The seed was sent to me from a customer in Washington State. The plants were slow growing at first but eventually took off, reaching 5′ in height. They were very productive and continued producing pods until frost.
Rouge Et Noir is most likely a semi-bush variety and will benefit from trellising or some type of support like corn stalks.
Seed Saving: Isolate cowpeas and asparagus beans by 50′ for home use, 150′ for pure seed.
*I am adding extra seed to compensate for a lower than normal germination rate of 65%. This is an important heirloom variety that deserves preservation.
