Avati Moroti Mita Flour Corn

Avati Moroti Mita is the earliest landrace corn in Paraguay (60 – 90 days) and one of the earliest in South America. It is a flour type selected by the Guarani tribe. My seed stock came from Stephen Smith of SOPI (Seeds of Preservation Independence). 


I planted on May 28th and harvested at the end of August (approx. 90 days). The plants grew to about 6 foot tall and produced an average of 2 ears per stalk. I had no disease, lodging or insect problems with this variety. The ears average 6″ in length and are a mix of yellow and blackish purple kernels. I am looking forward to grinding this into flour and using in various recipes. I will update this page with my results.
