Description

Hokkajdo is a landrace rice variety collected from Primorskij kraj, which is a federal subject of Russia located across the Sea of Japan from Hokkaido Island. I obtained my initial seed from Sylvia Davatz of Vermont. This variety had an average yield of 7 pounds of paddy per 100 square foot.

Hokkajdo is a short grain brown rice with long awns, generally indicative of a landrace rice. The plants flowered 55 days from transplanting and matured 100 days from transplanting. Hokkajdo grew to a height of 34″ and did have some minor lodging after periods of heavy rainfall. *I will be adding a flavor/cooking profile to this page in the near future.
