Badda di Polizzi

New for 2018

Badda di Polizzi is an heirloom bean from Sicily. There are two variation, a black and white ecotype and a brown and white. This is the brown and white. This is a pole bean that can be eaten as a green bean (60 days) and as a dry soup bean (90 days).  The original seed was sent to me from a friend in Italy.

This bean has been grown in Polizzi Generosa for 2 centuries, and is listed in the Slow Food Presidia, where they describe it as “A flavorful bean, with herbaceous, even briny notes, it has a slight astringency, with hints of chestnut and almond in the finish.

Seed Saving: Isolate from other Phaseolus vulgaris varieties by 25′ for home use, 100′-150′ for pure seed.
