Zhukovsky Wheat

Not Available for 2018

Ttiticum aestivum subs. zhukovskyi

zhukovskyiAnother, rare landrace variety from the Republic of Georgia. This is a hulled cultivar. I was fascinated with the fact that the leaves were broad, dark green and slightly fuzzy. In my experience, this fuzziness, can be helpful in deterring leaf chewing pests like rabbits or deer. Zhukovsky was almost the latest maturing of all the spring wheat varieties I trialed ( it came in just a week earlier than Einkorn). Considered to be a natural cross between T. monococcum and T. tiompheevii.

*I am offering this seed for the purpose of preservation. Grain fill in my region (northern Indiana) is less than one would expect in areas more suitable to raising spring wheat (cooler and more arid). This variety will need selection and adaptation to improve grain fill, yield and disease resistance in regions with frequent spring/summer rains, humidity and heat.

I recommend that you plan on saving your own seed!

This wheat is sold with the hulls intact.
